Draft Grade — Bears
Overall A-
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Bears a A-.

Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Bears came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The veteran additions, Zion Johnson chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

The cost of the Jenkins reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Rome Odunze and all.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
No edge and no loss on Rome Odunze in Round 1, Pick 10; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick15 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In slot 15 they get a disruptor off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick21 Rnd1 JC Latham
In the 21st pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick30 Rnd1 Kamren Kinchens
In pick 30 they get a centerfielder for the defense. Need was not the driver here.
Pick38 Rnd2 Keon Coleman
Value with a capital V on Keon Coleman in pick No. 38, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick42 Rnd2 Kris Jenkins
A conviction pick on Kris Jenkins at No. 42 that the board grades a round light. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick46 Rnd2 Denzel Burke
Denzel Burke in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick66 Rnd3 Adisa Isaac
Adisa Isaac in the 66th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick71 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
A straight-up fair deal on Payton Wilson at slot 71, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick106 Rnd4 Braelon Allen
They paid sticker price for Braelon Allen in pick No. 106, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick119 Rnd4 Kris Abrams-Draine
They took Kris Abrams-Draine at par in the 119th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick127 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at Round 4, Pick 27 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
