Draft Grade — Bears
Overall C+
ValueD+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The Bears get a C+.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: David Walker, 87 picks early at the 72nd overall pick.

They banked enough surplus on Wilson to cover a lot of smaller sins. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

If Mike Green and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Mike Green
In slot 10 they get a bendy edge with upside, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker at the 39th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick41 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
A real head-scratcher, Tate Ratledge in pick 41 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick72 Rnd3 David Walker
They left a pile of value on the table to take David Walker this early at Round 3, Pick 8. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick149 Rnd5 Jared Wilson
Circle this one: Jared Wilson at pick No. 149 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick197 Rnd6 Carson Vinson
They liked Carson Vinson enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 6 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick235 Rnd7 Phillip Webb
Phillip Webb at the 235th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick242 Rnd7 Elijhah Badger
They talked themselves into Elijhah Badger at pick No. 242, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
