bearskin 18 DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Bears: B-. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Bears reached some 68 spots for Davison Igbinosun, and value like that does not grow back. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In pick 7 they get protection for the quarterback, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Booker at No. 39 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick41
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins at the 41st overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick71
Rnd3
Jordan Burch
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jordan Burch in pick No. 71, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick144
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
A big swing on Davison Igbinosun at slot 144, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick200
Rnd6
Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick229
Rnd7
Jamaree Caldwell
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jamaree Caldwell well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick246
Rnd7
Elijhah Badger
A reach on Elijhah Badger in the 246th overall pick; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
