Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB+
TradesC+
FutureB
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Bears a B-. The Bears looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Fred Davis at No. 244 regardless, 134 picks early.
However the rest shakes out, Paul Jr. at that price is a win they earned. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In No. 9 they get an anchor for the defensive front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Charles Grant
Charles Grant at pick 36 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick45
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
They read the board right and Tate Ratledge was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 13. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick73
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
A slide stopped in the 73rd pick, with Alfred Collins worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick154
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
A wild overpay on Davison Igbinosun in pick No. 154, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick190
Rnd6
Clay Webb
Clay Webb at slot 190 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick203
Rnd6
Chris Paul Jr.
Chris Paul Jr. in pick No. 203 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick228
Rnd7
Jared Wilson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jared Wilson at pick 228. The roster fit checks out.
Pick236
Rnd7
Elijhah Badger
They reached a country mile for Elijhah Badger at the 236th overall pick, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick244
Rnd7
Fred Davis
Value said wait; Fred Davis in No. 244 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
