BEARSKIN 18 DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Bears, and a B- to prove it. There is reaching, and then there is Phillip Webb at pick No. 149. The Bears jumped the board by 174 and dared it to prove them wrong.
Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Nolen pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In the 10th overall pick they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
Pick39
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at No. 39 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick41
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at Round 2, Pick 9 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick72
Rnd3
Kevin Winston Jr.
They reached into another round for Kevin Winston Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick149
Rnd5
Phillip Webb
They left a pile of value on the table to take Phillip Webb this early at the Round 5 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick197
Rnd6
Carson Vinson
A reach for Carson Vinson in pick No. 197; a little patience would have been rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick235
Rnd7
Elijhah Badger
A wild overpay on Elijhah Badger in pick No. 235, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick242
Rnd7
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
They talked themselves into Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at the 242nd pick, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
