Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesD FutureA
Grand theft in pick No. 253: the Chargers steal Jones and grade out a B-.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Trente Jones tumbling to the Chargers in slot 253 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Every board in the league had Corum lower, and that gap is the story.

It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In the 27th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35 Rnd2 Troy Franklin
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Troy Franklin. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick37 Rnd2 Roman Wilson
Roman Wilson at the 37th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick69 Rnd3 Blake Corum
Blake Corum in No. 69 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick104 Rnd4 Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni at the Round 4 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick105 Rnd4 Zak Zinter
They paid sticker price for Zak Zinter in pick 105, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick110 Rnd4 Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves in Round 4, Pick 10 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick140 Rnd5 Trevor Keegan
Trevor Keegan at pick No. 140 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick181 Rnd6 Fabien Lovett
A straight-up fair deal on Fabien Lovett at slot 181, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick225 Rnd7 Trey Knox
No edge and no loss on Trey Knox in pick No. 225; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick253 Rnd7 Trente Jones
Trente Jones at Round 7, Pick 33 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
