FutureA+
The Jets got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D. It is the swing that defines the weekend: Derrick Moore in the 109th pick, a good 41 spots before the room expected him.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In slot 8 they get a centerfielder for the defense. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
Nyck Harbor
Nyck Harbor at pick 33 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick39
Rnd2
CJ Allen
A conviction pick on CJ Allen at No. 39 that the board grades a round light. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick71
Rnd3
A'Mauri Washington
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on A'Mauri Washington. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick101
Rnd4
Charles Jagusah
They left a pile of value on the table to take Charles Jagusah this early at the 101st pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick109
Rnd4
Derrick Moore
A big swing on Derrick Moore at the 109th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick140
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun in the 140th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick200
Rnd6
Raylen Wilson
Raylen Wilson in the 200th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick201
Rnd6
Jalon Daniels
They paid a round early for Jalon Daniels in pick No. 201, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick256
Rnd7
Jalen Thompson
A wild overpay on Jalen Thompson in pick 256, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick257
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
Riley Mahlman in the Round 7 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
