Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureC
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Lions a B+.

The real work happened on the phones. The Lions fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.

Dixon falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The cost of the Hall reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Francis Mauigoa
Nice patience on Francis Mauigoa, who had no business lasting to slot 17. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick50 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter in Round 2, Pick 18 lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick118 Rnd4 Xavier Scott
Value with a capital V on Xavier Scott in pick 118, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick155 Rnd5 Sam Roush
A reasonable price with a little left over, Sam Roush in the 155th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick203 Rnd6 Thaddeus Dixon
Thaddeus Dixon in No. 203 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick212 Rnd6 PJ Williams
PJ Williams in the Round 6 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick222 Rnd7 Jordan Hall
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jordan Hall. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
