Grs107 DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Washington should have been long gone. The Chiefs pounced, and earned a B. When a board-topper like Malik Washington slides to the Round 5 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Chiefs did not.
That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Troy Franklin
In No. 31 they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick63
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
They let Kingsley Suamataia come to them and pounced at pick 63. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick94
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
Michael Hall Jr. at the 94th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick131
Rnd4
MarShawn Lloyd
By-the-book stuff, MarShawn Lloyd at the 131st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick161
Rnd5
Edefuan Ulofoshio
Edefuan Ulofoshio in pick No. 161 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick171
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
Nothing to complain about; Kitan Oladapo went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick175
Rnd5
Malik Washington
They robbed the room for Malik Washington here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick209
Rnd6
Jordan Magee
Fair-plus on Jordan Magee, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick252
Rnd7
Walter Rouse
Walter Rouse at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
