Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B-

Grand theft in the 161st overall pick: the Chiefs steal Pritchett and grade out a B-.

When a board-topper like Nehemiah Pritchett slides to the 161st pick, you do not overthink it, and the Chiefs did not. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

It is not that Smith is a bad player; it is that the Chiefs had louder needs to answer first. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Driskell has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Xavier Legette
In pick No. 28 they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick60 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
Value with a capital V on Patrick Paul in slot 60, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick91 Rnd3 Maason Smith
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went DT-EDGE with Maason Smith while clear needs at tight end, quarterback and other spots sat open.
Pick128 Rnd4 MarShawn Lloyd
MarShawn Lloyd in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick161 Rnd5 Nehemiah Pritchett
You do not let a cornerback like Nehemiah Pritchett reach the 161st pick and blink. They did not. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick171 Rnd5 Ethan Driskell
They paid a round early for Ethan Driskell in pick 171, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick175 Rnd5 Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs in Round 5, Pick 39 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick206 Rnd6 Omar Speights
Good price on Omar Speights in No. 206, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick249 Rnd7 Walter Rouse
They took Walter Rouse at par in slot 249, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
