Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Chiefs, and a B- to prove it.

You can draft well and still miss the point. The Chiefs did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to tight end, which was the need that mattered most.

That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The Goncalves reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Xavier Legette
In the 28th pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick60 Rnd2 Ruke Orhorhoro
Ruke Orhorhoro in pick No. 60 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick91 Rnd3 Matt Goncalves
A premium they did not need to pay, Matt Goncalves a notch or two before his time. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick128 Rnd4 MarShawn Lloyd
MarShawn Lloyd at slot 128 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick161 Rnd5 Edefuan Ulofoshio
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Edefuan Ulofoshio at the Round 5 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick171 Rnd5 Julian Pearl
They liked Julian Pearl enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 5, Pick 35. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
Pick175 Rnd5 Curtis Jacobs
No edge and no loss on Curtis Jacobs in No. 175; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick206 Rnd6 Jalen Green
Jalen Green in pick 206 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick249 Rnd7 Walter Rouse
They paid sticker price for Walter Rouse in the Round 7 slot, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
