Grs107 DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Chiefs checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. You can draft well and still miss the point. The Chiefs did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to tight end, which was the need that mattered most.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Magee. They will need Goncalves to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In the 28th overall pick they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick60
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
The board had cheaper options than Payton Wilson at Round 2, Pick 28, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
Pick91
Rnd3
Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves at slot 91 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick128
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at the Round 4 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick161
Rnd5
Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. at pick 161 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick171
Rnd5
Jordan Jefferson
Jordan Jefferson in the 171st pick is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick175
Rnd5
Ethan Driskell
They paid sticker price for Ethan Driskell in pick No. 175, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick206
Rnd6
Jordan Magee
Jordan Magee slid further than he should have, and No. 206 is lovely value for the linebacker. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick249
Rnd7
Walter Rouse
No drama and no debate, Walter Rouse went about where he belonged in the 249th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
