The Jets cashed the board's mistake on Johnson: B. You build a draft on nights like this. Cornelius Johnson had no business being available in pick 257, and the Jets did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
They are betting Milton III proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In the 10th pick they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick72
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
Circle this one: Payton Wilson at slot 72 is a fall that decides a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick111
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
A conviction pick on Theo Johnson at pick 111 that the board grades a round light. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick139
Rnd5
Mason McCormick
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mason McCormick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick185
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III in Round 6, Pick 10 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick256
Rnd7
Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick257
Rnd7
Cornelius Johnson
The board fumbled Cornelius Johnson all the way to pick No. 257, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
