FutureB
A passer of the future in Williams, and a C, for the Bears. Start where it matters. The Bears took Caleb Williams to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The Bullock value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
They are betting Powers-Johnson proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Hit on Caleb Williams and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In pick 2 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
In the Round 1 slot they get a red-zone target to build around at fair value. More want than need.
Pick36
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
They liked Jackson Powers-Johnson enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 2, Pick 4. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick43
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Chop Robinson at No. 43 is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick67
Rnd3
Calen Bullock
Circle this one: Calen Bullock at pick No. 67 is a fall that decides a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick74
Rnd3
Blake Corum
Blake Corum in the 74th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick75
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at slot 75 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick110
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
A premium they did not need to pay, Darius Robinson a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick122
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves in the Round 4 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
Pick146
Rnd5
Sincere Haynesworth
Sincere Haynesworth at the 146th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A need, and now a little less of one.
