Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB- TradesA+ FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Dolphins a B+.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Dolphins did exactly that with Jackson Slater in pick 95. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.

The Williams pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick58 Rnd2 Benjamin Morrison
Nice patience on Benjamin Morrison, who had no business lasting to the 58th overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick59 Rnd2 Jonah Savaiinaea
Jonah Savaiinaea at the 59th pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick60 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
Good price on Alfred Collins in pick 60, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick79 Rnd3 Deone Walker
They took Deone Walker at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick91 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
A reasonable price with a little left over, Andrew Mukuba in slot 91. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick95 Rnd3 Jackson Slater
Jackson Slater at No. 95 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick129 Rnd4 Anthony Belton
Value with a capital V on Anthony Belton in No. 129, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick130 Rnd4 Savion Williams
Somehow Savion Williams was still sitting there in the 130th overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick135 Rnd4 Ty Robinson
They talked themselves into Ty Robinson at Round 4, Pick 33, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick140 Rnd5 Kyle McCord
Taking Kyle McCord in pick No. 140 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick146 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Pat Bryant. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick150 Rnd5 Jeffrey Bassa
Circle this one: Jeffrey Bassa at the 150th pick is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick155 Rnd5 Clay Webb
Value said wait; Clay Webb in pick 155 says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick203 Rnd6 Jaylen Reed
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jaylen Reed in the Round 6 slot. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick224 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
The board had cheaper options than Isaac TeSlaa at No. 224, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick231 Rnd7 Phil Mafah
They read the board right and Phil Mafah was the payoff at the 231st pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick253 Rnd7 Zeek Biggers
A clean, defensible pick in slot 253 with a little surplus value in Zeek Biggers. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
