Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
A franchise passer in Williams headlines a D- weekend for the Bears.

The phones were a trap the Bears kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.

Whatever Caleb Williams becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. They will need Muhammad III to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
No edge and no loss on Xavier Legette in pick 43; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick74 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran at slot 74 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick75 Rnd3 Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard at the 75th pick is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick110 Rnd4 Cooper Beebe
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cooper Beebe. The roster fit checks out.
Pick127 Rnd4 Moose Muhammad III
A real head-scratcher, Moose Muhammad III in No. 127 is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick146 Rnd5 Darius Robinson
They went early on Darius Robinson in pick No. 146, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick186 Rnd6 Sam Hartman
Good price on Sam Hartman in the 186th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick232 Rnd7 Isaiah Williams
Isaiah Williams is a better player than pick No. 232 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
