Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B
ValueB NeedB- TradesC FutureA+
Grand theft in the 181st overall pick: the Browns steal James and grade out a B.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Jordan James, the No. 119 name on the board, stolen at the 181st overall pick. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

They will need Truss to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.

The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick62 Rnd2 Tre Harris
Tre Harris slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the wide receiver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick67 Rnd3 Demetrius Knight Jr.
A slide stopped in pick No. 67, with Demetrius Knight Jr. worth more than the price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick87 Rnd3 Deone Walker
They robbed the room for Deone Walker here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick94 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
They read the board right and Ozzy Trapilo was the payoff at the 94th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick103 Rnd4 Denzel Burke
The board had Denzel Burke higher than Round 4, Pick 2, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick116 Rnd4 Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba in pick 116 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick120 Rnd4 Will Howard
Value with a capital V on Will Howard in No. 120, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick165 Rnd5 Emery Jones Jr.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Emery Jones Jr. in the 165th pick, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick181 Rnd6 Jordan James
The board fumbled Jordan James all the way to Round 6, Pick 3, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick198 Rnd6 Jake Briningstool
Jake Briningstool at the 198th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick202 Rnd6 JJ Pegues
Steal is underselling it; JJ Pegues at pick No. 202 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick210 Rnd6 Nohl Williams
Somehow Nohl Williams was still sitting there in No. 210, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick216 Rnd6 Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins in slot 216 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick217 Rnd6 Clay Webb
Value said wait; Clay Webb in the 217th pick says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Pick219 Rnd7 Logan Parr
Logan Parr in pick 219 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick221 Rnd7 Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick244 Rnd7 Quinn Carroll
A real head-scratcher, Quinn Carroll in the 244th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick257 Rnd7 Xavier Truss
This one needs a full-page explanation: Xavier Truss in the Round 7 slot, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
