Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Packers a B-. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Devin Culp at pick No. 251 is 80 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Terrion Arnold
In the 25th overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes at pick 41 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick58
Rnd2
Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard at the 58th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick88
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter in the Round 3 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick91
Rnd3
Braelon Allen
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Braelon Allen. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick127
Rnd4
Kalen King
They liked Kalen King enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 4, Pick 27. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick168
Rnd5
Caedan Wallace
Caedan Wallace at No. 168 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick204
Rnd6
JD Bertrand
No drama and no debate, JD Bertrand went about where he belonged in pick No. 204. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick216
Rnd6
Tahj Washington
Somehow Tahj Washington was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 41, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick243
Rnd7
Tatum Bethune
They jumped the gun on Tatum Bethune, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick251
Rnd7
Devin Culp
A real head-scratcher, Devin Culp in the 251st overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
