Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
D
ValueA-
NeedB-
TradesF
FutureB-
The Packers robbed the room for Slaughter. Final grade: D. The phones were a trap the Packers kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Landing Slaughter that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
The board had Caleb Downs higher than slot 16, and the safety fell to them anyway. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick46
Rnd2
Denzel Boston
The board fumbled Denzel Boston all the way to pick 46, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick52
Rnd2
Kayden McDonald
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Kayden McDonald reach the 52nd overall pick and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick84
Rnd3
Jake Slaughter
They barely believed it either: Jake Slaughter still on the board at the 84th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick116
Rnd4
Jack Endries
Jack Endries at No. 116 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It fills a real need, too.
Pick120
Rnd4
Xavier Scott
Xavier Scott in pick No. 120 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick158
Rnd5
Mike Washington Jr.
Mike Washington Jr. at slot 158 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick178
Rnd5
Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor slid further than he should have, and the Round 5 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick201
Rnd6
Monroe Mills
Monroe Mills in Round 6, Pick 20 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick236
Rnd7
Jalon Daniels
Jalon Daniels in No. 236 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick254
Rnd7
Smith Snowden
Smith Snowden at the 254th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick257
Rnd7
J. Michael Sturdivant
By-the-book stuff, J. Michael Sturdivant at pick 257 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
