Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
McCarthy is the plan now, and the Vikings grade out a B+.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. That Harden pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

The Jackson pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with safety and tight end still on the board. Rogers has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick19 Rnd1 J.J. McCarthy
In the 19th pick they get the arm they will build around at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick23 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
They paid sticker price for Brian Thomas Jr. in the Round 1 slot, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick52 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cooper Beebe in pick No. 52. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick83 Rnd3 Max Melton
Max Melton at slot 83 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick108 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
A want over a need in Round 4, Pick 8: Khyree Jackson adds a cornerback while safety and tight end keeps waiting.
Pick129 Rnd4 James Williams
James Williams at No. 129 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick157 Rnd5 Isaiah Davis
A straight-up fair deal on Isaiah Davis at the 157th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick167 Rnd5 Khristian Boyd
They liked Khristian Boyd enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 167. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick177 Rnd6 Justin Rogers
Justin Rogers in the Round 6 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
Pick217 Rnd6 Jaden Crumedy
The board had cheaper options than Jaden Crumedy at pick No. 217, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
Pick230 Rnd7 Myles Harden
Steal is underselling it; Myles Harden at slot 230 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick232 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. in pick 232 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
