FutureB-
Quarterback settled, Mendoza in the fold, and a B for the Raiders. They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Fernando Mendoza is the Raiders' quarterback, full stop. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The cost of the Carmona reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Shaquill Griffin deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In slot 1 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Christen Miller
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Christen Miller in Round 2, Pick 4. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick102
Rnd4
Chase Bisontis
Chase Bisontis at No. 102 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick115
Rnd4
Blake Miller
Blake Miller in pick No. 115 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick117
Rnd4
D'Angelo Ponds
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and D'Angelo Ponds at the 117th overall pick is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick135
Rnd4
J.C. Davis
J.C. Davis at the 135th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick176
Rnd5
Earnest Greene III
Earnest Greene III at pick 176 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick178
Rnd5
Thaddeus Dixon
They went early on Thaddeus Dixon in the Round 5 slot, and the value did not follow. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick181
Rnd6
Fernando Carmona
Value said wait; Fernando Carmona in No. 181 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick184
Rnd6
Eric McAlister
Eric McAlister in Round 6, Pick 4 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick212
Rnd6
Robert Spears-Jennings
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Robert Spears-Jennings. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick219
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
A wild overpay on Riley Mahlman in the 219th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick225
Rnd7
Dominic Zvada
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Dominic Zvada well ahead of where he belonged. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
