LTV DRAFTING FOR THEVikings

Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall
C+
ValueB-
NeedC
TradesB-
FutureB-
Some hits, some head-scratchers, and a C+ for the Vikings. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Vikings took Koi Perich a full 35 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Pieper. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. It is not that Green is a bad player; it is that the Vikings had louder needs to answer first.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
If Trey'Dez Green and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Trey'Dez Green
A curious use of Round 1, Pick 30. Edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots needed the pick; a tight end in Trey'Dez Green did not.
Pick69
Rnd3
Kade Pieper
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 3 slot is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick78
Rnd3
Jayden Maiava
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jayden Maiava at quarterback with edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots open.
Pick94
Rnd3
Koi Perich
They reached into another round for Koi Perich, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick105
Rnd4
Isaac Brown
Isaac Brown at pick No. 105 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick141
Rnd5
A.J. Harris
They liked A.J. Harris enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 141. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Pick144
Rnd5
Drake Lindsey
They paid up for Drake Lindsey at No. 144 when waiting would have done the job. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick158
Rnd5
Whit Weeks
Whit Weeks in the 158th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick231
Rnd7
Boo Carter
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Boo Carter. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
