Draft Grade — Jets
Overall A
ValueA NeedB- TradesA+ FutureA
The Jets robbed the room for Hampton. Final grade: A.

Call it larceny. Omarion Hampton sat on the board until the 122nd pick, and the Jets did not need to be asked twice. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A to show for it.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Spending an early pick on linebacker with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Malaki Starks and all.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Malaki Starks
In slot 24 they get a rangy last line of defense at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick57 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in the 57th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick87 Rnd3 Jalon Walker
Circle this one: Jalon Walker at Round 3, Pick 23 is a fall that decides a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick92 Rnd3 Jihaad Campbell
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jihaad Campbell adds a linebacker and leaves quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots untouched.
Pick108 Rnd4 Azareye'h Thomas
You do not let a cornerback like Azareye'h Thomas reach pick No. 108 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick112 Rnd4 Bradyn Swinson
Steal is underselling it; Bradyn Swinson at the Round 4 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick122 Rnd4 Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton at pick 122 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick144 Rnd5 Carson Schwesinger
Somehow Carson Schwesinger was still sitting there in the 144th pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick155 Rnd5 Ryan Fitzgerald
Taking Ryan Fitzgerald in pick 155 is close to grand larceny; a specialist that good had no business lasting this long. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick184 Rnd6 Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom in slot 184 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick206 Rnd6 Joshua Gray
Joshua Gray at the 206th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick237 Rnd7 Karene Reid
They will replay Karene Reid at No. 237 for years; that is how good the value is. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
