Draft Grade — Bears
Overall A-
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Bears worked the phones like thieves and earned a A-.

The trade table was a mismatch, and the Bears were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.

For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. They banked enough surplus on Wilson to cover a lot of smaller sins. They will need Van Pran to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Malik Nabers
In pick 3 they get a home-run threat at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick14 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get juice off the edge at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick34 Rnd2 J.J. McCarthy
A conviction pick on J.J. McCarthy at pick No. 34 that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick45 Rnd2 Tyler Guyton
They took Tyler Guyton at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick75 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
A reach for Sedrick Van Pran in No. 75; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick110 Rnd4 Roman Wilson
Roman Wilson in the 110th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
Pick125 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
They did well to land Khyree Jackson in the 125th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick152 Rnd5 Cole Bishop
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cole Bishop in slot 152. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick176 Rnd6 Zion Tupuola-Fetui
They paid sticker price for Zion Tupuola-Fetui in pick 176, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick186 Rnd6 Trey Knox
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trey Knox. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick232 Rnd7 Blake Watson
Blake Watson in pick No. 232 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
