KAOS DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The 49ers let Sanders fall and pounced. Final grade: B. The 49ers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Raheim Sanders fell into slot 189. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They will need Gregory to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In slot 11 they get a cornerstone up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
The board fumbled Tyler Warren all the way to pick 43, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick75
Rnd3
Demetrius Knight Jr.
Demetrius Knight Jr. slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 11 is lovely value for the linebacker. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick99
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
They robbed the room for Omarr Norman-Lott here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick112
Rnd4
Isaiah Bond
Steal is underselling it; Isaiah Bond at the 112th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick138
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
They barely believed it either: Joshua Farmer still on the board at No. 138. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick139
Rnd4
Darius Alexander
Nice patience on Darius Alexander, who had no business lasting to pick No. 139. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick148
Rnd5
Lathan Ransom
You do not let a safety like Lathan Ransom reach the 148th overall pick and blink. They did not. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick189
Rnd6
Raheim Sanders
They will replay Raheim Sanders at No. 189 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick228
Rnd7
Addison West
Taking Addison West in the 228th pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick232
Rnd7
Mac McWilliams
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Mac McWilliams at the Round 7 slot. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick255
Rnd7
Eric Gregory
Value said wait; Eric Gregory in Round 7, Pick 37 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
