jmeyers18 DRAFTING FOR THECardinals
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Cardinals did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. There is a lot to like until you notice quarterback is still a hole. The Cardinals never got to the one that mattered most.
They are betting Puni proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Getting Brooks where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 4th overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick27
Rnd1
Troy Fautanu
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick35
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
They liked Kris Jenkins enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 2, Pick 3. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick66
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Payton Wilson. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick71
Rnd3
Jonathon Brooks
Jonathon Brooks in slot 71 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick90
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
A premium they did not need to pay, Dominick Puni a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
