Draft Grade — Dolphins

FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Dolphins and Trotter: D-. The phones were a trap the Dolphins kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
They will answer for taking cornerback early while edge rusher and running back went begging. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. McClellan has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
The Trotter steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq in pick 19 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick43
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
Good price on Emmanuel Pregnon in No. 43, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
Pick51
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Value with a capital V on Dillon Thieneman in pick No. 51, a genuine coup. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick75
Rnd3
Malachi Fields
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 3 slot with a little surplus value in Malachi Fields. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick83
Rnd3
Julian Neal
Nothing to complain about; Julian Neal went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick87
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Omar Cooper Jr. in the 87th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick90
Rnd3
Josiah Trotter
Somehow Josiah Trotter was still sitting there in pick No. 90, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick111
Rnd4
Chris McClellan
They went early on Chris McClellan in the Round 4 slot, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick119
Rnd4
Hezekiah Masses
A curious use of slot 119. Edge rusher and running back needed the pick; a cornerback in Hezekiah Masses did not.
Pick149
Rnd5
Keagen Trost
A straight-up fair deal on Keagen Trost at Round 5, Pick 11, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick227
Rnd7
Cole Payton
Cole Payton at the 227th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
