Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
D+
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB+
The Dolphins let Scott fall and pounced. Final grade: D+. The phones were a trap the Dolphins kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Put together, it is a D+.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The Scott pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots. They are betting Barber proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Scott falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In the 18th pick they get an every-down engine for the run game, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick43
Rnd2
Brandon Cisse
Nice patience on Brandon Cisse, who had no business lasting to the 43rd overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick64
Rnd2
A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy slid further than he should have, and No. 64 is lovely value for the safety. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick75
Rnd3
Elijah Sarratt
Elijah Sarratt in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick82
Rnd3
Austin Barber
A conviction pick on Austin Barber at Round 3, Pick 18 that the board grades a round light. It fills a real need, too.
Pick87
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
A curious use of pick No. 87. Edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Keionte Scott did not.
Pick90
Rnd3
Max Klare
A slide stopped in the 90th pick, with Max Klare worth more than the price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick96
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 96 on Zakee Wheatley with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved.
Pick111
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
They jumped the gun on Bryce Lance, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick149
Rnd5
Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts slipping to pick No. 149 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick227
Rnd7
Cole Payton
They went early on Cole Payton in the 227th overall pick, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
