FutureA
Larceny in No. 75 lands the Dolphins a D, McNeil-Warren and all. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Dolphins did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Every board in the league had Lance lower, and that gap is the story. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
The Dolphins clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Carnell Tate at pick No. 20. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick21
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
In pick 21 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
Pick43
Rnd2
Chris Johnson
Chris Johnson is a better player than Round 2, Pick 11 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick75
Rnd3
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
They barely believed it either: Emmanuel McNeil-Warren still on the board at the 75th overall pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick111
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
A conviction pick on Bryce Lance at the 111th pick that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick120
Rnd4
Jack Endries
A slide stopped in slot 120, with Jack Endries worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick149
Rnd5
Kage Casey
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kage Casey. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick150
Rnd5
Kyle Louis
No drama and no debate, Kyle Louis went about where he belonged in pick 150. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick227
Rnd7
Kaden Wetjen
Good price on Kaden Wetjen in the Round 7 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
