FutureA+
Good, not great, for the Dolphins: B. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Dolphins spent the 236th pick on Riley Mahlman, a name most had 59 spots down the list. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
On value alone, Hill Jr. makes the weekend a net positive. The Davis pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Chris Brazzell II
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick49
Rnd2
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. in slot 49 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick63
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
Taking Anthony Hill Jr. in Round 2, Pick 31 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick87
Rnd3
Devin Moore
A tidy little value on Devin Moore in the 87th overall pick, a step better than break-even. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick90
Rnd3
Sam Hecht
Fair-plus on Sam Hecht, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick95
Rnd3
Tacario Davis
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick No. 95 on Tacario Davis with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved.
Pick97
Rnd3
Michael Trigg
They paid sticker price for Michael Trigg in the 97th overall pick, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick111
Rnd4
Harold Perkins Jr.
Harold Perkins Jr. at the 111th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick115
Rnd4
Justin Joly
They did well to land Justin Joly in pick No. 115, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick120
Rnd4
Bud Clark
A straight-up fair deal on Bud Clark at Round 4, Pick 20, value and slot in agreement. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick125
Rnd4
Isaiah World
The board had cheaper options than Isaiah World at the Round 4 slot, and it noticed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick149
Rnd5
Beau Stephens
Beau Stephens in pick 149 lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick161
Rnd5
Taylen Green
Taylen Green at No. 161 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick199
Rnd6
Jeff Caldwell
Value said wait; Jeff Caldwell in slot 199 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick227
Rnd7
Raylen Wilson
A clean, defensible pick in slot 227 with a little surplus value in Raylen Wilson. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick229
Rnd7
Cole Payton
Cole Payton at the 229th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick231
Rnd7
Nolan Rucci
Nolan Rucci at Round 7, Pick 15 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick236
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
This one needs a full-page explanation: Riley Mahlman in the 236th overall pick, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
Pick252
Rnd7
Joshua Braun
They talked themselves into Joshua Braun at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
