The Dolphins drew a line under the quarterback search with Mendoza: B. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Kenyon Sadiq, the No. 21 name on the board, stolen at pick 227.
Everything downstream of Fernando Mendoza depends on Fernando Mendoza, and the building knows it. They will answer for taking cornerback early while interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots went begging. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In the 11th pick they get a passer to set the clock by. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43
Rnd2
Mansoor Delane
You do not let a cornerback like Mansoor Delane reach the 43rd overall pick and blink. They did not. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick75
Rnd3
Spencer Fano
They robbed the room for Spencer Fano here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
Pick87
Rnd3
Jermod McCoy
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Jermod McCoy while clear needs at interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots sat open.
Pick96
Rnd3
Dante Moore
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Dante Moore in Round 3, Pick 32, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick111
Rnd4
Carnell Tate
Circle this one: Carnell Tate at pick 111 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick149
Rnd5
Cashius Howell
The board fumbled Cashius Howell all the way to pick No. 149, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick213
Rnd6
Jordyn Tyson
Jordyn Tyson at the Round 6 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick227
Rnd7
Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq in the 227th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
