Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B
ValueC NeedB- TradesB+ FutureA-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Dolphins a B.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Keaten Wade at pick 220 is 154 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

However the rest shakes out, Golday at that price is a win they earned. The Dolphins indulged a want in Moore while a need in wide receiver, tight end and other spots stayed open. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Zion Young
Zion Young in the 30th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick43 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
No drama and no debate, Caleb Banks went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 11. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick47 Rnd2 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
They paid sticker price for Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in slot 47, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick75 Rnd3 Keionte Scott
The board had Keionte Scott higher than the Round 3 slot, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick87 Rnd3 Jake Golday
You do not let an edge rusher like Jake Golday reach pick No. 87 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick90 Rnd3 Devin Moore
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 90th overall pick on Devin Moore with wide receiver, tight end and other spots unsolved.
Pick111 Rnd4 Harold Perkins Jr.
They went early on Harold Perkins Jr. in Round 4, Pick 11, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick113 Rnd4 Tacario Davis
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Tacario Davis adds a cornerback and leaves wide receiver, tight end and other spots untouched.
Pick128 Rnd4 Bud Clark
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Bud Clark at safety with wide receiver, tight end and other spots open.
Pick130 Rnd4 Vincent Anthony Jr.
Vincent Anthony Jr. at pick 130 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick166 Rnd5 Patrick Payton
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Patrick Payton well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick216 Rnd6 Marvin Jones Jr.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Marvin Jones Jr. in slot 216, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick220 Rnd7 Keaten Wade
Value said wait; Keaten Wade in No. 220 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick227 Rnd7 Charles Demmings
Charles Demmings at the Round 7 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick235 Rnd7 Eric Gentry
Eric Gentry in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick253 Rnd7 Cole Payton
A quiet steal in Round 7, Pick 37: Cole Payton for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
