The Dolphins did not so much draft Riley Mahlman as overpay for him, 40 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

On value alone, Scott makes the weekend a net positive. With edge rusher, running back and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Dolphins paired the rookies with proven help, Jack Conklin leading the way.

In the end it comes back to Emmanuel Pregnon, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
