FutureA+
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Dolphins: B. Nobody else had Taylen Green anywhere near slot 161. The Dolphins did, by 25 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. Wheatley at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Nick Cross gives the group a proven body among the projects.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick43
Rnd2
Gabe Jacas
Gabe Jacas at the 43rd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick49
Rnd2
Derrick Moore
Derrick Moore at pick 49 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick75
Rnd3
Devin Moore
They went early on Devin Moore in slot 75, and the value did not follow. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick78
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
A reach on Nicholas Singleton in the 78th pick; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick90
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
They let Zakee Wheatley come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick111
Rnd4
Justin Joly
A reasonable price with a little left over, Justin Joly in No. 111. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick115
Rnd4
Michael Trigg
Michael Trigg in the 115th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick149
Rnd5
Drew Allar
Drew Allar at pick 149 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick161
Rnd5
Taylen Green
They reached a country mile for Taylen Green at the Round 5 slot, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick227
Rnd7
Zxavian Harris
A clean, defensible pick in No. 227 with a little surplus value in Zxavian Harris. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick253
Rnd7
Anez Cooper
This one needs a full-page explanation: Anez Cooper in pick No. 253, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
