The Dolphins turned the phones into found money: B+. The Dolphins ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
It is not that Davis is a bad player; it is that the Dolphins had louder needs to answer first. The Stowers pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The cost of the Allar reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In slot 18 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick74
Rnd3
Jake Golday
The board had Jake Golday higher than the Round 3 slot, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick75
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers at the 75th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick90
Rnd3
Devin Moore
Good price on Devin Moore in the 90th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick91
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nicholas Singleton. It fills a real need, too.
Pick97
Rnd3
Caden Curry
A reach on Caden Curry in Round 3, Pick 33; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick116
Rnd4
Jack Endries
A tidy bit of business in No. 116, where Jack Endries graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Pick120
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
They bypassed pressing needs at wide receiver to take Tacario Davis, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick126
Rnd4
Drew Allar
Drew Allar at Round 4, Pick 26 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick146
Rnd5
Jalen Farmer
Jalen Farmer in slot 146 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick149
Rnd5
Aaron Graves
They liked Aaron Graves enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 5 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick158
Rnd5
DJ Campbell
They jumped the gun on DJ Campbell, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick227
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
A premium they did not need to pay, Riley Mahlman a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
