Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB- NeedA- TradesB FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Patriots.

The tape said wait; the Patriots did not. Gino Garcia went at the 238th overall pick, a good 69 picks before the board was ready.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Henderson. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In pick No. 4 they get juice off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick49 Rnd2 Jayden Higgins
No drama and no debate, Jayden Higgins went about where he belonged in the 49th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick69 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson at No. 69 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick77 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
A straight-up fair deal on Ozzy Trapilo at slot 77, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick81 Rnd3 Mason Taylor
Good price on Mason Taylor in the Round 3 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick106 Rnd4 Jordan Phillips
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Phillips. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick144 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore in pick No. 144 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick171 Rnd5 Seth McLaughlin
They took Seth McLaughlin at par in No. 171, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick220 Rnd7 Ricky White III
No edge and no loss on Ricky White III in slot 220; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick238 Rnd7 Gino Garcia
Gino Garcia at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
