Somebody in the Round 5 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bears sat still while Elic Ayomanor, the No. 57 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
