Draft Grade — Colts
Overall

FutureB-
The Colts won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B. The Jaden Hicks pick is the one that will follow the Colts into the fall. They took him 40 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. It is not that Jackson is a bad player; it is that the Colts had louder needs to answer first.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Jared Verse
A clean, defensible pick in No. 20 with a little surplus value in Jared Verse. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick46
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
Good price on T.J. Tampa in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick66
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks at pick No. 66 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick82
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, running back and other spots to take Khyree Jackson, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick90
Rnd3
Malik Washington
This one needs a full-page explanation: Malik Washington in Round 3, Pick 27, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick118
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at the 118th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick158
Rnd5
LaDarius Henderson
LaDarius Henderson at pick 158 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick193
Rnd6
Christian Jones
They jumped the gun on Christian Jones, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick232
Rnd7
Jaden Crumedy
Jaden Crumedy in No. 232 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
Pick238
Rnd7
Daequan Hardy
Daequan Hardy at slot 238 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick250
Rnd7
Nathaniel Watson
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nathaniel Watson. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
