Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesD FutureA+
The Patriots bled value on every deal, hence the B-.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Nick Nash; the Patriots did not wait, grabbing him 147 spots ahead at the Round 4 slot.

However the rest shakes out, Skattebo at that price is a win they earned. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.

A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
In the 14th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
Good price on Derrick Harmon in Round 2, Pick 7, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick45 Rnd2 Donovan Ezeiruaku
They talked themselves into Donovan Ezeiruaku at pick No. 45, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick70 Rnd3 Kyle Kennard
A conviction pick on Kyle Kennard at No. 70 that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick76 Rnd3 Xavier Watts
Steal is underselling it; Xavier Watts at the 76th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick83 Rnd3 Tez Johnson
They went early on Tez Johnson in slot 83, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick106 Rnd4 Nick Nash
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Nick Nash. It fills a real need, too.
Pick141 Rnd5 Jaylin Noel
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaylin Noel. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick221 Rnd7 Seth McLaughlin
A quiet steal in pick No. 221: Seth McLaughlin for less than the market said. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick223 Rnd7 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at the 223rd pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick235 Rnd7 Clay Webb
Clay Webb slid further than he should have, and Round 7, Pick 21 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
