Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Bears answered their biggest question with Williams. Grade: D-.

Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Bears, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. Put together, it is a D-.

So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. If Rosengarten pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
Caleb Williams at slot 1 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value.
Pick44 Rnd2 Bralen Trice
Bralen Trice in pick 44 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick75 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany in pick No. 75 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick110 Rnd4 Ray Davis
A straight-up fair deal on Ray Davis at the 110th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick122 Rnd4 Max Melton
Max Melton slid further than he should have, and the 122nd pick is lovely value for the cornerback. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick146 Rnd5 Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick190 Rnd6 Gabe Hall
The board had cheaper options than Gabe Hall at No. 190, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
