Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC NeedC+ TradesA+ FutureD
The Steelers won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B-.

You build a draft on nights like this. Jaylin Simpson had no business being available in the Round 6 slot, and the Steelers did the only sane thing and turned in the card.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Every board in the league had Powers-Johnson lower, and that gap is the story. It is not that Guyton is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first.

They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
They talked themselves into Jackson Powers-Johnson at the 20th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick52 Rnd2 Tyler Guyton
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Tyler Guyton at offensive lineman with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots open.
Pick84 Rnd3 Mike Sainristil
A reasonable price with a little left over, Mike Sainristil in Round 3, Pick 20. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick120 Rnd4 James Williams
They paid a round early for James Williams in slot 120, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick181 Rnd6 Jaylin Simpson
Somehow Jaylin Simpson was still sitting there in pick No. 181, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick198 Rnd6 Omar Speights
Omar Speights in No. 198 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick241 Rnd7 Trevor Keegan
Trevor Keegan at the 241st overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
