FutureB+
The Dolphins let Stroman fall into their laps, and walked away with a D+. The phones were a trap the Dolphins kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Hard to defend, and the D+ reflects that.
The Dolphins indulged a want in Scott while a need in edge rusher and running back stayed open. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
The Stroman pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In slot 27 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane in No. 43 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick49
Rnd2
Christen Miller
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Christen Miller in the 49th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick75
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
They barely believed it either: D'Angelo Ponds still on the board at the Round 3 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick87
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
A top-tier safety at a bargain, A.J. Haulcy in Round 3, Pick 23, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick89
Rnd3
Elijah Sarratt
Elijah Sarratt in pick No. 89 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick95
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Keionte Scott at cornerback with edge rusher and running back open.
Pick111
Rnd4
Garrett Nussmeier
The board fumbled Garrett Nussmeier all the way to Round 4, Pick 11, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick112
Rnd4
Drew Shelton
They robbed the room for Drew Shelton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick125
Rnd4
Parker Brailsford
A slide stopped in pick 125, with Parker Brailsford worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick149
Rnd5
Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts in the 149th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick150
Rnd5
CJ Daniels
CJ Daniels in the 150th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick177
Rnd5
Bryce Boettcher
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 177, where Bryce Boettcher graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick215
Rnd6
Jalen Stroman
Jalen Stroman at slot 215 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
