The 49ers worked the phones like thieves and earned a B.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The 49ers took Malachi Lawrence a full 44 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. On value alone, Fitzgerald makes the weekend a net positive. They will answer for taking safety early while quarterback went begging.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
