Overall B-

A solid, sensible weekend for the Rams: B-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Rams reached some 52 spots for Austin Barber, and value like that does not grow back.

That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Thieneman at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. The back end got a real overhaul.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Mansoor Delane
In slot 13 they get a sticky cover corner. Need was not the driver here.
Pick29 Rnd1 Austin Barber
In the 29th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick61 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
You do not let a safety like Dillon Thieneman reach pick 61 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick93 Rnd3 Malachi Fields
They read the board right and Malachi Fields was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 29. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick167 Rnd5 Sawyer Robertson
They paid up for Sawyer Robertson at the 167th pick when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick205 Rnd6 Desmond Reid
Fair-plus on Desmond Reid, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick208 Rnd6 Noah Fifita
Noah Fifita is a better player than the Round 6 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick232 Rnd7 Jack Velling
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jack Velling in Round 7, Pick 16. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick250 Rnd7 Micah Morris
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Micah Morris. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick256 Rnd7 Preston Hodge
Preston Hodge in No. 256 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
