Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
The 49ers worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+.

The 49ers ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. No fireworks, but a solid B+.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. That Monangai pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They will need Grant to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
JT Tuimoloau at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick51 Rnd2 Trey Amos
They paid sticker price for Trey Amos in No. 51, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick75 Rnd3 Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter in the 75th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick76 Rnd3 Charles Grant
A reach for Charles Grant in the 76th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick80 Rnd3 Darius Alexander
They paid a round early for Darius Alexander in pick No. 80, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick100 Rnd3 Tai Felton
A straight-up fair deal on Tai Felton at pick 100, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick113 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in slot 113 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick122 Rnd4 Joshua Farmer
Joshua Farmer slid further than he should have, and the Round 4 slot is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick138 Rnd4 Mitchell Evans
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mitchell Evans. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick147 Rnd5 Luke Kandra
By-the-book stuff, Luke Kandra at No. 147 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick151 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
No edge and no loss on O'Donnell Fortune in pick 151; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick160 Rnd5 Ty Robinson
They took Ty Robinson at par in Round 5, Pick 22, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick227 Rnd7 Kyle Monangai
Kyle Monangai in the 227th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick249 Rnd7 Dante Trader Jr.
Dante Trader Jr. is a better player than slot 249 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick252 Rnd7 Bru McCoy
A premium they did not need to pay, Bru McCoy a notch or two before his time. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
