Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers cashed the board's mistake on McCord: B-.

You could see the war room lean forward. Kyle McCord at pick 227 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

The Oladejo pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In the 11th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
They reached into another round for Tate Ratledge, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick75 Rnd3 Demetrius Knight Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Demetrius Knight Jr. at the Round 3 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick100 Rnd3 Cam Skattebo
A straight-up fair deal on Cam Skattebo at Round 3, Pick 36, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick113 Rnd4 Antwaun Powell-Ryland
Antwaun Powell-Ryland in the 113th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick138 Rnd4 Oluwafemi Oladejo
They left a pile of value on the table to take Oluwafemi Oladejo this early at pick No. 138. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick147 Rnd5 Jordan Phillips
Taking Jordan Phillips in slot 147 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick160 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
A wild overpay on JJ Pegues in No. 160, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick227 Rnd7 Kyle McCord
Kyle McCord at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick249 Rnd7 Kobe Hudson
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 249 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick252 Rnd7 Jabbar Muhammad
Jabbar Muhammad in slot 252 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
