Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall D+
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
The phones sank the Chiefs this weekend: D+.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Chiefs spent No. 114 on Derrick Moore, a name most had 39 spots down the list. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D+ is the result.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Strong at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Kadyn Proctor
They paid sticker price for Kadyn Proctor in slot 14, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick45 Rnd2 Jonah Coleman
By-the-book stuff, Jonah Coleman at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick76 Rnd3 A.J. Haulcy
Nice patience on A.J. Haulcy, who had no business lasting to the 76th overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick81 Rnd3 Ian Strong
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ian Strong at pick 81. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick89 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
They took Omar Cooper Jr. at par in pick No. 89, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick114 Rnd4 Derrick Moore
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Derrick Moore. It fills a real need, too.
Pick153 Rnd5 Tanner Koziol
Tanner Koziol in Round 5, Pick 13 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick176 Rnd5 Monroe Mills
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Monroe Mills. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
