Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Chiefs a B.

The Josh Moten selection is the head-turner. The Chiefs reached 26 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Taaffe. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.

Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Jeremiyah Love
In pick No. 21 they get a centerpiece for the ground game at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick46 Rnd2 Trevor Goosby
Trevor Goosby at the Round 2 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick55 Rnd2 Nyck Harbor
No drama and no debate, Nyck Harbor went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 23. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick81 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
A quiet steal in pick 81: Michael Taaffe for less than the market said. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick116 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
A straight-up fair deal on D'Angelo Ponds at No. 116, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick121 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bryce Lance. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick155 Rnd5 Tanner Koziol
A reach for Tanner Koziol in the 155th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick163 Rnd5 Zane Durant
A wild overpay on Zane Durant in pick 163, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick176 Rnd5 Josh Moten
Josh Moten at No. 176 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
