Draft Grade — Jets

FutureB-
The Jets bet the future on Mendoza. The board says B-. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Jets spent their marquee pick on Fernando Mendoza, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The cost of the Thompson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Miller pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In No. 3 they get a long-term answer under center. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick18
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the 18th overall pick they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick34
Rnd2
Christen Miller
Christen Miller in slot 34 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
Pick46
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Fair-plus on Sonny Styles, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick104
Rnd4
Kaytron Allen
Kaytron Allen at Round 4, Pick 4 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick176
Rnd5
Aaron Anderson
Aaron Anderson at the Round 5 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick178
Rnd5
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Jermaine Mathews Jr. at pick 178 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick196
Rnd6
Drayk Bowen
Drayk Bowen at the 196th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick205
Rnd6
Isaiah Nwokobia
A tidy little value on Isaiah Nwokobia in the Round 6 slot, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick212
Rnd6
Brett Norfleet
They reached into another round for Brett Norfleet, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick218
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
They took Trey Zuhn III at par in the 218th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick239
Rnd7
Jalen Thompson
A real head-scratcher, Jalen Thompson in No. 239 is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
