Mr. Fats DRAFTING FOR THERaiders
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Raiders bet the future on Simpson. The board says B. The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Ty Simpson, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Every board in the league had Coogan lower, and that gap is the story. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Abney II.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Ty Simpson
In the 6th overall pick they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Arvell Reese
You do not let a linebacker like Arvell Reese reach pick No. 38 and blink. They did not. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick70
Rnd3
Nyck Harbor
They let Nyck Harbor come to them and pounced at Round 3, Pick 6. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick106
Rnd4
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. slid further than he should have, and pick 106 is lovely value for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick113
Rnd4
Keith Abney II
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Keith Abney II in the Round 4 slot, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick135
Rnd4
Bray Hubbard
They took Bray Hubbard at par in slot 135, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick173
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
Good price on Davison Igbinosun in No. 173, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick181
Rnd6
DJ Campbell
A straight-up fair deal on DJ Campbell at the 181st pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick184
Rnd6
Gunner Stockton
Gunner Stockton is a better player than pick No. 184 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick220
Rnd7
Pat Coogan
Value said wait; Pat Coogan in the 220th overall pick says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
